A Day at the Movies: Peanuts

Good Grief! And I mean that in a good way! Hey guys, it's John. Now let me tell you all something, if there was anything that was a shining gem from my childhood, it's Peanuts. For those of you who don't know, Peanuts, a newspaper strip created by Charles Schulz, tells the story of the every day lives of a boy named Charlie Brown and his dog Snoopy. It is hands down one of the most influential and iconic comic strips of all time and it has spawned numerous television specials (most famously the Christmas and Halloween ones) and even a couple of feature films. But now after 35 years, Charlie Brown and the gang have made a return to theaters. So how does the peanuts latest film fair? Let's find out. The Good Hoo boy, where do I begin? Because this film got numerous things right. Let's start off with the animation. When I first heard that the movie was going to be in CGI I was extremely worried because I thought that this meant that the characters wouldn...

Top 5 most terrifying Batman moments

Hey guys, it's me again, and hoo boy it's been a while since I last posted. Mainly due to the fact that school and things in my personal life have been getting in the way, but alas the hiatus is finally over and I'm back for the month of October! Now since October is known for being a month full of spooks, I started to ponder what I should write about. Suddenly, I began to think about writing about a superhero for October. And there is truly no other superhero that fit's the Halloween atmosphere more than this guy: DARKNESS! NO PARENTS! Yes folks, today the spotlight is gonna be on the dark knight. For over several decades, Batman has been entertaining people worldwide with his kickass adventures, memorable supporting cast and of course, his iconic rogues gallery. And with a history as rich as Batman's, you can be sure that there were some moments that disturbed the hell out of a lot of people. But which one's stood out the most? Which one's left the gr...

My Top 7 favorite Sonic Levels

Sonic's the name speed's his game! As many Sonic fans may already know, the 25th anniversary for the blue blur is right around the corner. Sure he may have had his ups and downs and all arounds  throughout the years but regardless, the fans have stuck by his side through thick and thin. And to prepare for Sonic's 25th birthday, I have decided to take a look back on some my personal favorites of the blue blur's best levels throughout his his history. Now for this list I'm only going to include levels from games I have played. Oh and another thing, this list is entirely opinion based. So don't feel upset if your favorite level isn't on the list. Without further ado, let's get things started. 7. Music Plant (Sonic Advance 2) Now the first Sonic Advance believe it or not was my first Sonic game and it was the game that turned me into a loyal fan of the series. So when I found out there was a sequel, I was stoked. So when my mom finally bought the game ...

A Day at the Movies: Fantastic Four (Spoiler Filled Review)

Ah the Fantastic Four. For those of you who don't know, these guys are by far one of the most well known comic book teams of all time. Known by many fans as "The First family of comics" the Fantastic Four first appeared "Fantastic Four vol. 1" in November of 1961. Their book was a major success and thanks to them, Marvel Comics became a force to be reckoned with and soon after characters such as Spider-Man and the X-Men were introduced. Not only that, but it’s notable that they were the first superheroes without secret identities, the first superhero team where the members fought each other as much as the villains and the first place where the iconic “Kirby Dots” (a way of showing a crackle of energy drawn by legendary artist Jack Kirby) appeared.  Sadly, despite being such an influential team to the comic book industry, Marvel’s first family have never really translated to the medium of film all that well. The first attempt at a Fantastic Four film cam...

A Day at the Movies: Justice League Gods and Monsters

Ah DC animation. While this series of movies may be direct to video, they have consistently been praised for their impressive animation, strong storylines, and interesting directions that they take their iconic characters in. But recently, I haven't been impressed with their movies. In my opinion, the DC animated films have taken a severe nosedive in quality starting with "Justice League War". The Batman films they released later (with the exception of Assault on Arkham) weren't any better and they really disappointed me with the turd known as "Throne of Atlantis" (or as I like to call it, "The Lion King Underwater"). So is Gods and Monsters another dud from DC, or has Bruce Timm delivered yet again? Let's find out. The Story In a parallel universe, the Justice League only consists of the Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman). However, this Trinity is a hell of a lot different from the Trinity we're used to seeing. Unlike the mainstr...

Taiora vs Sorato: Why are we still fighting about this?

So as many of you guys may already know, the long awaited continuation of the Digimon Adventure series titled "Digimon Adventure Tri" is coming later this year. And of course the fans couldn't be more excited, I mean finally after more than a decade, we're finally going to get to see the OG digidestined go on another adventure. And of course there have been tons of speculation going on, such as what the villain is gonna be like, if the 02 characters will make an appearance, whether the other Digimon aside from Agumon or Gabumon will go mega, it's all just so exciting. But of course there's one bit of speculation that has been going around as well, one that is not so positive. I'm of course talking about the shipping. Now for those of you who aren't familiar with the terminology of the Internet, shipping is a term used to describe taking two fictional characters from a series and putting them in a romantic relationship. And if there's anyt...

Does a film having a similar setting to another necessarily make it a rip off?

Hey guys, it's John, and I'm finally here with my first blog post. Now for my first post I decided to focus on something film related, since I am a big movie guy. And to get this topic rolling, let's start with something that I have loved ever since I was a small child: Disney. Ah yes, this is a company that have played a huge role in damn near everybody's lives. Everybody has seen at least one Disney film in their lives and everybody knows at least one Disney song word for word by heart. So what's gotten me to focus on Disney today you ask? Well it has something to do with the motherland: Africa. Now granted Disney has already done a movie set in Africa, and it's called The Lion King . But here's the thing, as much as I love The Lion King , it was just about a bunch of talking animals and I've always wanted a Disney film that focuses on the actual  people of Africa and the various rich cultures and folklore that they have to offer. And when ...

Greetings!

Sup guys, the names John and well, it's finally happened, I'm on the blogging scene (no Tumblr doesn't count). On here I'm going to be talking about stuff that interests me and my thoughts about said stuff, most likely stuff pertaining to film, television, and fandoms. And since I'm looking forward to having a career in writing, what better way to start than to write about what's on my mind? So get ready to see me talk about the stuff I love, because we're gonna be in for one hell of a ride.
