Of course you freaking saw it! Who hasn't?! Endgame was an epic, emotional, and extravagant finale to this chapter of the MCU and serves as a perfect ending for the original six avengers. Now I was originally going to write my own review for the film but you know what? After seeing it, I just couldn't stop thinking about where the MCU could go after a film of this caliber. So instead, I'm just going to talk about the kind of films I'd love to see in this brand new chapter of the MCU going forward.
Now for this list I'm only going to go with properties that Marvel hasn't currently announced plans for. So in other words characters that have been confirmed to get television shows or full on theatrical sequels will not appear on this list. Also be warned, because I will have spoilers for Endgame present when talking about these properties so if you have not seen the film, turn away now. You have been warned.
5. Nova
Now thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy films, viewers should already be well acquainted to the Nova Corps. But now I think it's time to give them their own film. The film would mainly be centered around the higher ranking members of the corps, who are given access to a helmet that gives them the abilities of flight, super strength, universal teleportation, super durability, energy blasts, and the ability to breath underwater and in space.
Now whether Richard Rider or Sam Alexander is the Nova they use in the film remains to be seen but given that Marvel is sure to give us some more cosmic goodness in the future, a Nova film would be a more than good enough starting point.
4. Ms. Marvel
Hailing from Jersey City, Kamala Khan was just your average teenage girl who fangirled about the superheroes around her and wrote more than her fair share of fan fictions about them. But when she gained superpowers thanks to the Inhumans terrigen mists, she decided to take up the former name of her favorite hero, Carol Danvers and fight the good fight.
Out of the all the new characters Marvel has introduced in the past several years, Kamala has undoubtedly had the biggest impact thus far. She's been praised by fans and critics alike for her bubbly personality and for being one of the view non-villainous depictions of muslims in media today. Since then Kamala, has gone on to be in a multitude of video games and cartoons. But in the wake of her idol Carol having a movie that grossed over $1 billion at the box office, I think now is the time for her to make a big screen debut.
3. Red Wolf
One of the biggest factors behind the MCU's success is that they take their characters and place them into different genres. On the movie side of things we've gotten everything from space operas (Guardians of the Galaxy) to political thrillers (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Heck, even on the television side of things we've gotten noir (Jessica Jones) and modern day blaxploitation (Luke Cage). But one genre that the MCU has yet to tackle is the Western.
Now Marvel does have a couple of Western characters under it's belt such as The Rawhide Kid and The Phantom Rider, but the one character I want to see adapted to film the most is Red Wolf. There have been four men to have the mantle of Red Wolf but I think for the movie to have a true western feel, we have the go with the version that lived in the 19th century, Johnny Wakely.
The adoptive name of a Cheyenne man raised by a white couple, Johnny was trying to find his place in the world after losing his family to the tensions between Native Americans and the US government that was happening at the time. After joining the US Calvary, Johnny stumbles upon the resting place of a warrior that formerly held the title of Red Wolf and subsequently meets the spirit of the Cheyenne God Owayodata. After being given the garb of the Red Wolf, totem of power, and coup stick, Johnny becomes of the greatest heroes that Marvel's Wild West has ever known.
We rarely see Westerns these days but I think with the right team, people will really turn out to see a superhero western. For it to work, I think it has to be significantly more serious in tone than most of the Marvel movies we've gotten in the past. Yes even more serious than Winter Soldier and Black Panther. That and it would be very interesting to see another period piece in the MCU. I always like it when we see superheroes in times that aren't in the modern day like with what we saw in Cap's first outing or more recently with Captain Marvel.
With all that said, Red Wolf would be an ideal choice to give the wild west the superhero touch.
2. Monsters Unleashed
And speaking of genres, another one Marvel could tackle is the Kaiju film. For those of you who don't know, "Kaiju" is Japanese for monster, and Marvel has the perfect series that can be adapted for this specific genre.
Hailing from Atlanta, Georgia, Kei Kadwe was just an ordinary 11 year kid who unfortunately didn't have that many friends in school. However, he's an extremely talented artist and one of the things that he loves to draw is monsters. When he comes into contact with the terrigen mists courtesy of the inhumans, suddenly every monster Kei draws becomes real. Now Kei leads his own team of monsters that he drew in order to protect earth from monsters with ill intentions.
Where do I begin? This is an amazing premise for a comic and needless to say, it would make for a hell of an entertaining film for the whole family to enjoy. I can picture a movie like this having a similar tone to Shazam overall with the whole "kid power" aspect of it. Not only that, but a potential Monsters Unleashed movie should definitely take some pointers from "Bumblebee" or even "How to Train Your Dragon" since they both also deal with the "Child and their X" trope pretty well. Another thing that this movie could touch upon is how Kei comes to terms with the fact that his powers give him the power to create life. That was one thing I liked about the comic because it actually went out of its way to deconstruct the power fantasy that most kids get from seeing popular monster franchises such as Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh. All of the monsters Kei creates have their own thoughts and feelings and they actually call him out on treating them like tools and weapons instead trying to get to know them as friends which in turn makes Kei strive to be a better friend towards them. On top of that, some of the monsters Kei summons but doesn't actually create make it clear that they only help him when it benefits them. Seeing a deconstruction of this genre on the big screen would be pretty intriguing if the right people work on it.
Finally, a Monsters Unleashed movie would have no shortage of potential antagonists as Marvel has more than enough weird, creepy, and cool monsters that have shared the page with characters such as Hulk and the Fantastic Four over the years. Needless to say, a Kaiju movie would be the perfect candidate of joining the ranks of the MCU.
1. Savage Land
Oh hell yes. You wanna know what people love as much as superheroes? Dinosaurs. And a movie like this would be a marriage made in heaven.
The story of the savage land centers around a young man named Kevin Plunder, who hails from England. As a young child, his father discovered a remote area in Antartica where prehistoric animals never went extinct. The two go there, but then his father is tragically killed by the Man Ape tribe. Luckily for the young Kevin, he is then raised by the smilodon named Zabu, who bestows the name "Ka-Zar" upon him. Under Zabu's care, Ka-Zar grows to become the savage lands greatest hero.
Guys, a movie like this would be absolutely insane. Ka-Zar's story is essentially Tarzan meets Jurassic Park, and with the Jurassic World movies making tons of money at the box office, having something similar to that in a universe full of superheroes is a gold mine. And think of the storytelling potential! Since Marvel just got the X-Men back, this opens the door for other characters paying a visit to Ka-Zar's part of the Marvel universe since he teamed up with them more than several times in the comics. Can you just imagine how amazing it would be seeing a Tarzan like figure riding into battle on a T-Rex with characters like Cyclops and Storm by his side? Or we could have villains like Sauron so we can get this gem on the big screen:
Whichever way you look at it, the savage land is one Marvel location just begging to be paid a visit. But these are just my personal choices. Are there any characters that you hope will get a chance to be in a Marvel film? Feel free to let me know in the comment section. Until next time, see you around.
